Janine Jansen—a former participant in the company’s Akzo Nobel for Young Talent program—was recently awarded the Edison Classic Public Award 2004 for her eponymously-titled international debut album on the Decca label, which was released last year.
The prize was presented at a celebration concert staged in Amsterdam, an event which was broadcast live on Dutch television.
The 26-year-old—whose debut album has been released in 20 countries, going gold in her native Netherlands—won the honor after votes were polled via the internet, telephone and voting forms. Other contestants included Charlotte Church, Cecilia Bartoli and Petra Berger.
Between 2000 and 2001, Janine took part in three concerts organized under the company’s Young Talent banner, a program which aims to offer gifted musicians the chance to perform with acclaimed orchestras and conductors, so providing them with a springboard to launch their careers.
