A liquefied natural gas carrier has become the 1000th vessel to be coated with products supplied by Akzo Nobel’s International Paint (Korea) business (IPK).
The British Trader is owned by BP and was constructed at the Samsung Shipyard. The vessel was coated with Intersmooth® Ecoloflex SPC on the underwater hull, while Intershield® 300 was applied to the water ballast tanks.
IPK has enjoyed much success in the marine business since its inception in 1980. During this time 190 container carriers, 210 bulk carriers, 180 product carriers and numerous other vessels have been coated with International® products.
“The coating of our 1000th vessel is a great honor for IPK,” said O.S. Kang, general manager of the Marine and Protective Coatings business in Korea.
“This historic achievement is something that we can share with our customers, our associates and all IPK personnel here in Korea. Without them this would not have been accomplished as swiftly as it has been.”
In total, more than 160 million liters of paint have been applied to newbuilding vessels in Korean shipyards via IPK since the company was formed.
