Double Scotch For Marine

The first newbuild car and passenger ferry to be built by Western Ferries (Clyde) in Scotland has been launched, following significant help from Akzo Nobel.

The 200-tonne Sound of Scarba, which can accommodate 200 passengers and 40 vehicles, has been protected with products supplied by International Marine Coatings, who won the contract in a competitive bid situation.

“We have a good relationship with both Ferguson Shipbuilders and Western Ferries,” explained Ian Buchanan, Marine area manager for Scotland.

“I believe it was our product performance and availability, together with excellent technical service support, that secured this contract in a competitive market place.”

Products used on the vessel included Intershield, Interspeed, Interthane and Intergard.

Marine also won the coating contract for an offshore support vessel currently being constructed at the Ferguson Shipbuilders yard.
