Official Opening for Plant

A new processing plant built by Akzo Nobel's Pulp and Paper Chemicals business has been officially opened in the United States.

The facility, located in the Village of Howard, Green Bay, WI, produces silicate products used in the papermaking process. There are also production lines for colloidal silica products used in other applications, such as in the electronic and food industries.

Up and running for the last three months, the site is nearly fully operational and the recent grand openingwas attended by area leaders, as well as a number of company officials.

“This plant will allow us to meet the demand from our Mid-West customers and completes our coverage of the important pulp and paper industry regions in North America, putting colloidal silica capacity close to our customers,” explained Eka’s general manager for paper chemicals, Byron Smith.

The new plant, which occupies a 31-acre site, will primarily support the growing demand for Eka Chemicals’ performance chemicals for the paper industry.
