A yacht coated by Akzo Nobel has won this year’s round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race.
The illbruck Challenge team clinched victory by six points after finishing second in the ninth and final leg from Gothenburg to Kiel in their native Germany—a leg which was claimed by another vessel coated by Akzo Nobel, djuice dragons.
The event started back in September in Southampton, England, and the illbruck Challenge team won four of the nine legs, finishing as runners-up twice. The various destinations have included Cape Town, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and Miami.
Various International® brandprotective coatings products helped the boat to withstand the severe ocean environments, such as Interspray 900, Interfill 835 and hard racing antifouling VC Offshore.
Said winning skipper John Kostecki: “We had an incredible battle on our hands as we had great competition from the other teams and they pushed us for every point.”
