Stadium Wins Recognition

A world class sports stadium protected by Akzo Nobel coatings was one of the finalists for an award which showcases the best examples of how good design is good business.

A hi-tech sports stadium protected by Akzo Nobel products recently earned recognition for its impressive design.

The WestpacTrust Stadium in Wellington City, New Zealand, was one of the finalists in the Business Week/Architectural Record Awards 2001, which also rewards good examples of economic enterprise.

The stadium, which seats 34,500 people and opened in 2000, can accommodate all winter football codes, has a square of five cricket wickets and there is also room for a temporary running track.

Most of the venue’s steelwork was coated with International’s Interzinc 12 zinc silicate, with Intergard 475 epoxy also being used extensively during the construction of the facility.

The new stadium replaced the old Athletic Park venue and achieved record crowds for a multitude of events during its first six months of operation.
