Vessel Ready For Action

The world’s second largest hopper dredger is preparing to start its working life in Asia after being coated with products supplied by Akzo Nobel.

Built for owners Anglo Dutch Dredging at the Van der Giessen Shipyard in the Netherlands, the 185 meter long Rotterdam is a trailing suction hopper dredger with accommodation for 39 crew.

The vessel, which has a hold capacity of 21,500m³, is equipped with suction tubes which allows dredging to take place at depths of 60 meters, increasing to 120 meters in the near future.

International Marine Coatings won the contract after a competitive bidding process, supplying a number of products including Intershield 300, Interline 154, Intergard 400 & 740 and Interthane 990.

Launched in December, the Rotterdam will be delivered in May for deployment in land reclamation projects in South East Asia.
