Bringing the Classroom to Life

Akzo Nobel is helping to bring the classroom experience to life for schoolchildren in England.

The company’s Plastic and Processing Additives business, Akcros Chemicals—based in Eccles near Manchester—is giving youngsters a real-life insight into the world of chemicals through the Children Challenging Industry project.

The scheme, which links the primary science curriculum with the chemical and allied industry, helps children to discover how science is used in everyday working life and helps them to better understand the work of scientists in industry.

Research has shown that the project prompts pupils to consider, probably for the first time, pursuing a career in industry, as well as helping them to gain positive insights into industrial practices.

Akcros is one of several companies that offer site visits and/or funding for the initiative, which to date has involved more than 1,250 children.
