Coatings Think Big

One of the biggest container ships in the world is travelling the high seas after being coated with Akzo Nobel products.

One of the largest container ships in the world has been coated with Akzo Nobel protective coatings during its construction in Korea.

The P&O Nedlloyd Cook, which is nearly 300 meters in length and has a capacity of 6,802 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) was put into service recently, having been painted with products supplied by International Coatings.

More than 300,000 liters of International paint was used, including Intershield 300, Intergard 400, Interthane 990 and Intersmooth 270. “P&O Nedlloyd are a regular customer and we have developed a very strong relationship with the company over the years,” said Ben Cordemans, International’s Marine Account Manager in the Netherlands.

The last in a series of four new container ships to be built for P&O Nedlloyd, the vessel will be deployed in the Grand Alliance’s Europe to Far East service, sailing under the British flag.
