Presented annually by the Norfolk Southern (NS) transport organization, the Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award recognizes customers who have shipped more than 1,000 carloads of hazardous chemicals without incident on the company’s rail network.
Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc—which has now won the award four years in a row—was one of 35 Norfolk Southern customers to be honored for 2003.
“These winners have demonstrated that incident-free shipping is attainable and we salute them,” said David R. Goode, chairman, president and CEO of NS, which operates 21,500 route miles in 22 states.
Between them, the award-winners safely handled a total of more than 70,000 carloads of hazardous chemicals without a single release of product.
